Scotch Plains Police Reports: April 27 to May 2

Police activity from the past week.

Scotch Plains police arrested a Plainfield man Saturday allegedly after catching him in the act of burglarizing a local resident's garage.

Edelimo Torres, 40, of Plainfield, was arrested for the burglary.

A Scotch Plains resident reported suspicious activity in her garage on Saturday, and officers said when police arrived they found Torres inside the garage removing several items.

He was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters, where he was processed. He was then taken to Union County Jail after he failed to post bail.

Tuesday, April 27:

  • A student at the Union County Vo-Tech Schools reported being a victim of burglary. The student told police that an unknown suspect entered his locker and removed approximately $50 in cash.
  • A patron at a Terrill Road restaurant reported being a victim of burglary. The man told police that an unknown suspect broke the window of his vehicle and removed his GPS, valued at approximately $150.
  • Orland Cestona, 25, of Union, was arrested for possession of marijuana. He was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the marijuana. After further investigation, the officer determined that he had it with the intent to distribute. Cestona was transported to police headquarters where he was processed. He was then taken to Union County Jail after he failed to post his $150,000 bail.
  • Andre Myrick, 43, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle violation stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Wednesday, April 28:

  • Jerome Seymour, 20, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle violation stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Thursday, April 29:

  • Manuel Cardoza, 20, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle violation stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, May 1:

  • Pedro Nunes, 26, of Clark, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. He was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the odor of alcohol. After several failed field sobriety tests, Nunes was placed under arrest, taken to police headquarters to be processed, then released.

Sunday, May 2:

  • While on routine patrol, an officer observed a broken window at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School. Entrance to the school was not gained.
  • A resident of Farley Avenue reported being a victim of theft. The woman told police that an unknown suspect removed a bicycle from the side of her house. The bicycle was valued at approximately $200.
