Scotch Plains Police Reports: Jan. 18 to 24

Police activity from the past week.

An Irvington man tried to outsmart Scotch Plains Police this past Sunday.

The man, Alvin Branch, 55, was pulled over by the police for a motor vehicle violation. When police approached, he decided to give a false name to the officer to avoid him discovering that he already had warrants out for his arrest.

Branch was then arrested for hindering his apprehension, and taken to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Here are the rest of the police reports from the past week.

Monday, Jan. 18:

  • Brittany Hornsby, 23, of Westfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle stop. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • Brian Stanley, 30, of Scotch Plains, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle stop. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • A resident of Longfellow Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. The woman told police that an unknown suspect made several purchases on her bank card without her authorization. The bank notified her that $1,500 in purchases were made to her account.

Tuesday, Jan. 19:

  • A resident of Hunter Avenue reported being a victim of harassment. The woman stated that an unknown suspect has been ringing her doorbell, then running away.
  • A student at Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School reported being a victim of theft. The student told police that an unknown suspect removed a phone from his locker while he was in gym class. The phone was valued at approximately $350.

Friday, Jan. 22:

  • A resident of Westfield Road reported being a victim of a burglary. The man stated that an unknown suspect entered his residence by forcing in the back door, then removed several pieces of jewelry once inside.

Sunday, Jan. 24:

  • Timyaun Webb, 19, of Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding warrant after a motor vehicle stop. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
