SP Police Reports: Fraud, DWI and Criminal Mischief

SP police activity from July 27 to Aug. 1.

Scotch Plains police are currently investigating two reports of criminal mischief.

On Monday, July 27, a resident of Martine Avenue reported being a victim of criminal mischief. The woman stated that an unknown suspect damaged her mail box.

Two days later on Wednesday, July 29, a resident of Sterling Place also reported being a victim of criminal mischief. The man stated that an unknown suspect punctured the two rear tires of his vehicle.

Here is the rest of the Scotch Plains police activity from the past week:

Tuesday, July 28:

  • A resident of Park Avenue reported being a victim of fraud. The woman stated that an unknown suspect withdrew approximately $900 from her bank account without her authorization.

Thursday, July 30:

  • A resident of Short Hills Lane reported being a victim of burglary. The man stated that an unknown suspect entered his vehicle, which was parked in his driveway, and removed money and sunglasses.

Friday, July 31:

  • Cari Rappaport, 31, of Scotch Plains, was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident involving Rappaport when they noticed the odor of alcohol on her breath. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • Jeff Paul, 49, of Terrill Road in Scotch Plains, was arrested for illegal possession of prescription drugs. Paul was stopped for a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered that Paul had the drugs without a proper prescription. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.
  • Steven Hart, 39, of Tussel Lane in Scotch Plains, was arrested for burglary. Det. Hayeck was able to locate the property and charge Hart with residential burglary and theft of the property. Hart was transported to police headquarters to be processed, and was then taken to Union County Jail after he was unable to post $50,000 bail.
  • Neil Armstrong, 40, of Piscataway, was arrested for criminal trespass. Police responded to a call of an individual who was inside a vacant house on Front Street. When they arrived, they encountered Armstrong there. Armstrong stated that his friend used to live in the house and that he wanted to visit him. He was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, August 1:

  • A resident of Ravenswood Lane reported being a victim of burglary. The woman stated that an unknown suspect broke the window of her vehicle, which was parked in her driveway, and removed several items.
