SP Police Reports: Theft and Vandalism Make Up Bulk of Last Week's Activity

Scotch Plains' police activity from June 17 to June 21.

The Scotch Plains police responded to several reports of damaged property last week. In two separate instances on June 18, a resident and school on Raritan Road both reported being victims of vandalism.

The resident on Raritan Road told police that an unknown suspect damaged his mailbox. The mailbox was valued at approximately $125.

The principal of a Raritan Road school said that an unknown suspect clogged a sink drain and several classrooms had water damage.

Two days later, a resident on Deer Path also reported being a victim of vandalism. The resident stated that an unknown suspect threw an empty beer bottle at his vehicle and caused damage to the paint.

Wednesday, June 17

  • Karriem Coxson, 36, of Scotch Plains, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Coxson was stopped on a motor vehicle violation when the officer discovered the warrant. Coxson was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released.

Saturday, June 20

  • Racsaida Morel, 22, of Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Morel was stopped on a motor vehicle violation when an officer discovered the warrant. Morel was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • Police responded to a report of a person walking in the middle of the road blocking traffic. When officers arrived, they spoke with Samuel Hanciles, 20, of Scotch Plains, who was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest for possession and consumption of alcohol. Hanciles was transported to police headquarters, where he was processed and released to a relative.

Sunday, June 21

  • Samera Johnson, 30, of North Plainfield, was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Johnson was stopped on a motor vehicle violation when an officer discovered the warrant. She was transported to police headquarters, where she was processed and released.
  • A resident of Rambling Drive reported being a victim of theft. He stated that an unknown suspect stole his guitar after he was done playing a concert at the high school. The guitar was valued at approximately $600.
