Opponents of Obama Health Plan Protest Outside SP Post Office

The protestors are part of the LaRouche Political Action Committee.

Members of the LaRouche Political Action Committee are outside the Scotch Plains Post Office through 4 p.m. Thursday trying to persuade passersby of the flaws of President Barack Obama's health plan.

LaRouche activists are out in ten communities today throughout the New York City metropolitan area. In Scotch Plains, siblings Joe Billington and Margaret Greenspan are out handing pamphlets and literature that blast Obama for what they call a "Nazi Health Plan."

"This health care plan is genocide," Billington said. "We're facing the worse financial collapse in 500 years."

Billington said one of his main problems with the plan is that it sets out to create an independent board that would oversee health care in America. The LaRouche Web site compares that plan to "Hitler's "T-4" policy, for which the Nazi regime was tried and condemned at Nuremberg.

LaRouche supporters promote the philosophy of Lyndon LaRouche, an economist and political activist who has run for president several times in the past.

Billington said Scotch Plains was chosen as a location for today's protest partly because Congressman Leonard Lance, who represents this area, voted in favor of cap-and-trade, something that LaRouche is also adamantly against.

While Billington said passersby have been receptive to his and his sister's message, he said he's been surprised to encounter more Barack Obama supporters in Scotch Plains than expected. Both Billington and Greenspan are from Hackensack.
