College Club Presents Benefits of Spices and Herbs

Veronica Sidhu, M.A., will present a program on the health benefits of spices and herbs at the monthly meeting of the College Club of Fanwood-Scotch Plains on Monday, January 18, 2010. A short business meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by Ms. Sidhu's presentation at 8:00 o'clock. The meeting will be held at The Chelsea of Fanwood, 295 South Avenue, in Fanwood.

For thirty years Rani Sidhu learned to cook northern Indian dishes, using an array of fragrant spices, at the side of her Punjabi mother-in-law. Punjab is the "melting pot" of South Asia, and the people who moved to that region brought their dishes with them. The best of the best have survived to this day and have made Punjabi foods the most popular among all the Indian cuisines.

Since Ms. Sidhu’s retirement as a high school director of guidance, she has taught Indian cooking classes in her home to raise money for the McGinn playground and for scholarships in her grandson’s memory.

Attendees at Ms. Sidhu’s talk will be served a famous dessert from her new cookbook, Menus and Memories of Punjab:Meals to Nourish Body and Soul. The cookbook will be available for purchase and signing after the meeting.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
