JFK Bagpipe Tribute at Library, Coat Drive at Congregation Beth Israel This Weekend

What's happening this weekend in Scotch Plains and Fanwood.

Bagpipe tribute for JFK at the Scotch Plains Library: Jim Tansey, of the Essex County Emerald Society Pipes and Drums and Grand Marshal of the 2013 Union County St. Patrick's Day parade, will play Irish tunes, including JFK's favorite, "The Boys of Wexford," to mark the 50th anniversary of President Kennedy's assassination. Saturday, 1 p.m.

Prep for Thanksgiving at the Westfield Farmers Market: The Greater Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce will host a special Thanksgiving Farmers Market at the Westfield train station. Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.


Westfield Weavers holiday sale at the SP Rescue Squad: Handwoven table linens, scarves, shawls, hand knit baby sweaters, socks, and other wearables, pottery, baskets, and unique handmade gifts. Saturday, 10 a.m.

Scotch Plains Pain & Rehab gives away free care: On Saturday, Dr. Eric Chludzinski and his staff will trade a day’s worth of care for a donation of non-perishable food to be donated to the local food bank. During the event, the office will give away patient consultations, exams and treatments as well as refreshments, chair massages, door prizes and other gifts. Appointments required.

Hanukkah party at Congregation Beth Israel:
 Congregation Beth Israel in will host a Hanukkah party on Sunday from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the community. Co-sponsored by Congregation Beth Israel’s Sisterhood and Men’s Club, the Hanukkah party will feature musical entertainment, a magic show, food and games for the whole family.

Donate gently used coats at Congregation Beth Israel: On Sunday, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. a drive-through will be set up and volunteers from Congregation Beth Israel will be on-hand to collect coats directly from donors’ cars. The coat drive will benefit Jersey Cares, a non-profit, community-based organization that mobilizes the collection and distribution of thousands of winter coats to men, women and children in need.
